For the majority of the season and even before, there have been 5 or 6 teams that I’ve felt could win the championship. I had Bloomfield ranked just inside my Top 50 in the preseason preview write up and they are certainly still very much 1 of those 5 or 6 that are tops in 1A. Sr. Blake Neill for the Cardinals is arguably the top player @ the 1A level and having the best player on the floor any game they play will be a huge advantage. Up north Kouts has been having a once in a lifetime season currently sitting as 1/3 undefeated teams left in the entire state and #1 in most all 1A polls. The Mustangs seem like a pretty significant favorite to rep the 1A North. Sectional 62 is just a flat out gauntlet of a sectional. If you had to choose you could say Orleans got the best draw, avoiding Barr Reeve, Loogootee, and North Daviess until a possible champ. game, but any one of those 4 could win it. I promise that the Lions won’t want their season to end on their home floor against their rival Vikings. Another really big opening night game is @ Borden where Henryville takes on West Washington. WW got the win v. the Hornets just a week or so ago on their home floor but Henryville has some athletes that are hard to match up with. CAI is playing good after losing 90% of their offense from last year and Borden’s soph. Wyatt Jones may be the sectionals best individual player. Hauser and Trinity Lutheran seem like their on a collision path in Sectional 60. The last time Hauser lost a semi state game in 2005, the next year the Jets came back in 2006 to win the state title. Could history repeat itself exactly 20 years later. In Sectional 64 NE Dubois is the John Harrell favorites but a 30 pt. loss @ Wood Memorial earlier in the season says otherwise. With the sectional being played on the Trojans home floor it will be hard for the Jeeps to make up for 30 pts. to take out the host. In Sectional 54 Rossville is young but very talented. Jr. Brayden Thiele- Hahn is putting up 22 ppg and it’s just hard to pick against a team with the best player on the floor, especially in 1A. Sectional 56 should belong to the Golden Bears. Sr. Tashaun Beatty is a mismatch nightmare and soph. Luke Morgan is actually leading them in ppg. If anyone can knock off Kouts in 1A North, MC has the best shot. Sectional 57 is where the probable 1A favorites start their postseason; The Liberty Christian Lions have alot of talented and athletic pieces that will be hard for any 1A team to match up with. Jr. Kendrick Martin has been special this year and 6’8 Monte Dillard is a problem; skill and height-wise for 1A.
