4A Tournament Preview

Last year it seemed like it was Fishers, Jeffersonville, and everyone else. They were on a collision course ever since they played in Carmel’s tiny aux. gym in June and it ended up a 1 point W for Jeff. in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. This year you could make the argument that there are 7 or 8 teams that could cut down the nets. Or you could say that Fishers and Crown Point met up in Carmel in June and have since been on a similar collision course to face each other the last Saturday in March. I could go with both sides of the coin but 4A may be as wide open as any class this year and as open as they’ve been for a while. Although Fishers is the undefeated favorites getting out of Sectional 8 will be no picnic. Carmel played them tough about a month ago, HSE is one of the hottest teams in the state right now, and Westfield took them into OT. The Tigers will likely have to go through 2 of those teams just to make it to the regional. The Region looks to run through Crown Point with Chesterton having the best shot @ upsetting the defending regional champs. Sectional 3 is as tough as any in the state this year with Penn, SB St. Joe’s, and SB Riley. You may give St. Joe’s the slight edge after beating Riley and Penn in the regular season but this is their first season playing up in 4A ball. Northridge wants to show their 22-1 record is no fluke and they can put a run to semi state together. Sectional 11 in the South half of the bracket is tough with the best 1 game matchup in the opening round Friday game; Pike and Plainfield are 2 teams that could win the entire 4A South but one will be going home by Friday night. Farther down south the Bulldogs of New Albany are back as favorites after a 8 year drought. The Dogs look to match what their rival Red Devils did the last few years and get a state title with a young group. Evansville North and Terre Haute North just played an OT classic and could meet up again @ the semi state with a few upsets. Let’s get to the 4A picks
